This is : Battle Creek Speedfest; Flight Show Meets 1/2 Mile Racing

Written & Photographs by Kayla Ringle

Wide awake at 5:30 am, I am dying of excitement to attend my first Battle Creek Speedfest in Battle Creek, Michigan. As I arrive to the group meeting, I am greeted by many cars of different makes and models all idling while owners converse over coffee. Everyone is revved up and ready to leave at 7:00am and we are lead by a police escort to the airport.

Upon arriving at the track, I strolled through designated paddock area and watched the racers clean and prep their vehicles before the first session of racing.

Speedfest is a half-mile racing event. With new records being set earlier this year, half-mile racing has become the recent trend in the drag racing industry. For this weekend, the quarter mile is put on the back burner and racers are taking their turn at the half-mile.

One of the coolest elements about Speedfest is the entire event takes place on a functional airport. This means that during the racing sessions you can actually catch aircrafts taking off on the runway next to the provisional track, making the experience that much more memorable.

With a significant time gap in between racing sessions, racers and spectators can feel free to enjoy the festival environment. The smell of elephant ears and sound of F-22 Raptors in the sky stimulate every one of your senses as you walk the paddock.

The media team was even able to snag some photos of the cars next to the F-22 Raptor.

As you might guess Speedfest was a total success. Although the flight show/festival side was a great aspect, the best part to me was witnessing these car enthusiasts gather and enjoy a great weekend of racing. The racing environment was friendly and positive and everyone was having a blast. Speedfest is a fairly young event but I can already see it developing into a huge event in the near future; it displayed a unique and creative aspect that car enthusiasts look for in great racing events.

2016 World of Wheels & Tuner Galleria - Chicago

The World of Wheels returned to the Chicago area this past weekend, March 4th through the 6th.  Thousands of people traveled to Rosemont, IL to see some of the best vehicles in the area and throughout the country on display at the Rosemont Convention Center.  From a classic ’56 Bel Air to a Lamborghini, there was something for everyone.   Families were welcomed and had the chance to meet many celebrities and even get autographs.  The large displays of motorcycles, classic cars, muscle cars, concept vehicles, low riders and product booths provided lots of excitement for all.

On Saturday the second floor was opened up to a vast display of tuner vehicles.  From noon until 10pm, it looked like the set of The Fast and the Furious.  Hundreds of today’s most popular cars were on display, including a Nissan R34 GTR, as seen in the popular franchise.  Spectators were treated to today’s most popular imports, domestics and exotics.  This was truly a great show for the younger generation of car enthusiasts, myself included.

We had opportunity to attend The Gallery this past weekend January 9th at MGM Grand Detroit.  This event is a Private Charity event of Ultra-Luxury Automotive show.  Some of the most rare exotics you’ll ever see in one room to kick off the 2016 North American International Auto Show.

This is the 9th year this event has been held with over 7 million worth of exotic vehicles.  One in particular is the Aston Martin DB10 as seen in the latest James Bond Spectre.  This is a concept vehicle and no price has been shared but hints of it exceeding 2.5 million.  There was several other exotic vehicles on display including a pair of Lingenfelter Corvettes, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bently, Rolls, Royce, Ford GT Race Car, Acura NSX, Viper ACR, Range Rover, Falcon F7, and Porsche.

2015 Chicago Auto Show

Reveal of the 2016 Toyota Avalon

Chicago, it’s back, and it’s returned with a vengeance! The 2015 Chicago Auto is the largest and longest auto show in the nation. The location is again at the lakefront McCormick Place Convention Center, which provides plenty of room for automakers to display their awesome designs.  With over 1 million square feet of exhibition space to explore, you will encounter lots of opportunities to see both concept and production vehicles that are newly revealed.

Nissan Nismo GTR Le Mans Race Car

Many automakers staged the world debut of new concept vehicles, including the following: Kia Soul Trailster; Honda with a sneak peek of the Ridgeline rendering; Nissan 370z Nismo convertible; and the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV concept SUV.  All these are concept vehicles, but we will soon see them transformed into production vehicles. The production vehicles revealed included the Honda Pilot, Toyota Avalon, Acura RDX, Chevy Silverado & Equinox, Dodge Ram 1500 Limited, Hyundai Veloster Rally Car, VW Golf R, Ford Explorer Interceptor, and the Ford Mustang GT350.

I am happy to share that yes, the highly talked about vehicles from NAIAS will be on display - the Ford GT and the Acura NSX.  Both of these are stunning must see vehicles and certainly will be the talk of the show. Don’t forget about other great exhibitions including the Toyota, Dodge & Jeep test tracks.  These provide a great way to experience firsthand how a vehicle reacts during harsh road conditions and/or the way car drives itself.  There are also racing simulators at Hyundai, VW, State Farm, Ford and Toyota.

Alfa Romeo has returned to the auto show, bringing with them two just released beauties - the 4C and the 4C Spyder.  Hyundai has a large display of SEMA project vehicles, as well as two vehicles created by local designers from Chicago, which are on display at the ABC 7 booth.  Every manufacturer has great feature displays.  Some of the outstanding ones that I recommend are Chevy Volt, Cadillac CTS-V & ATS-V, Jaguar F-Type, BMW M6, Mercedes, Lexus GS-F, Audi, and the Nismo line up at Nissan.  Trust me, there is plenty to see!

If you are in mood to see exotic vehicles, make your way to the Super Car Gallery, where some of the most expensive and unique exotic vehicles you will see are all in one place.  This is a jaw dropping display of high end vehicles you’ll only see in magazines and movies.

I’m saving the best for last of course.  For all of you Chicago Blackhawks fans, be sure to make your way to the Chevy Dealership Family Fun area, brought to you by Chevy Drives Chicago.  Here you can get up close and personal with the 2015 Chicago Blackhawks Theme Chevy Camaro SS Convertible that will be given away at the end of the season.  There are also get fun games to play and merchandise for purchase.

This year’s Chicago Auto Show certainly packs a full day of excitement.  Make sure to take your time and stop by every booth to check out their line ups.  My wife and I certainly did, and we actually picked out our future vehicle that we will be purchasing soon.  I promise you that you will find something to fit your needs or just something to dream about.  Should you find something you are interested in, there will be local representatives to help assist you after the show.   The Chicago Auto Show continues its run through Sunday, February 22, 2015.

2015 North American International Auto Show - Media Day 1

As it was a VERY busy day 1 of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), I have finally been able to catch up and give you all a short recap of the first day of media day January 12, 2015. There was over 5700 journalist to attend this year being one of the most attended events of the year.

First thing that took place to kick of the 2015 North American International Auto Show was the announcement of the Truck and Car of the year.  The North American car of the year was the Volkswagen Golf.  Which it beat out an impressive Hyundai Genesis and a new sporty look of the Ford Mustang.

The North American Truck of the year went to the newly designed Ford F-150.  Beating out the Chevy Colorado and Lincoln MKC.  Both winners were well received and able to brag till 2016.

The biggest news going it to day 1 was the reveal of the new Acura NSX and the Ford GT.  Both were the only manufactures to not spill out what they were showing.  Sunday two manufactures did do a private reveal.  Buick showed of their new 2016 Cascada Convertible after a 25 year absence in the convertible market scheduled to go on sale early 2016 and new Buick Avenir Concept.

The other manufacture to have an early release was the Infinity Q60 Concept.  New look to the future of Infinity.  Below is a video of executive director Alfonso Albaisa discusses the design and inspiration of the design.

It was a busy day for sure as many automakers were getting ready.  There were many reveals made and news giving from just about everyone who presented that day.  Be honest, what stole the day was the reveal of the Acura NSX & Ford GT.  Other manufactures also had big reveals including the new Alfa Romeo 4C & 4C Spyder, Hyundai revealing the new Santa Cruz concept, BMW with the new M6 and convertible, Mercedes GLE, VW Cross Coupe GTE V6 Plug In, Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Titan, Ford Raptor and Mustang GT350r, Porsche 911 Targa GTS, Mini Cooper John Cooper, Chevy Bolt, Audi Q7, Bentley Mulsannespeed , Continental GT convertible & Flying Spur W12 and to finish ot Guangzhou GS4.

As you can see it’s been a busy day.  It truly was a jammed pack day with so much information being given in so little time.  Overall I can see all manufactures making big strives to improving their brands and keeping it affordable for all markets.  The automotive industry has defiantly made it more difficult to chose the best car for you as all make incredible cars.  Below is a recap of the photographs taken from Day 1.  I will be posting individual reveals with more details soon.
